South Portland - AI camera system
South Portland residents collaborated with ARRT! to create signs placed near survalance cameras. LumenARRT!, Maine’s projection art activist group, produced a moving video projection seen in the darkness. The city council voted to cancel the contract with FLOCK Safety after the campaign generated awarenss.
Mobile Home Parks - Resist Corporate Buy Outs!
Members of a manufactured home park worked with ARRT! members to create a banner for their campaign. Corporations have been buying parks across the country and raising lot rents significantly – 0ften double! The group was able to save their community from a corporate take over through new legislation which enabled them to purchase the park. Other parks have followed their lead and are now community owned.
Sanford - Stop the Sludge Campaign
Sanford residents rallied to halt the quick approval of a proposed sludge processing facility in their community. The company proposed building a plant that would handle twice as much sludge a the entire state of Maine produces: 400 tons of sludge a day! They used the banner and signs to alert residents and collect signatures. The city council which had been supportive of the Aries project instituted a moratorium after the public outcry.
